Amtrak assumed operation of the San Diegan Route (now Pacific Surfliner) in May, 1971. With an annual ridership of 1,984,069 passengers on the route in fiscal year 2024, it is now the third-busiest intercity passenger rail corridor in the nation (following the Albany, NY, to New York City, and Philadelphia to Harrisburg, PA, routes). This route is actually a partnership between Amtrak and the State of California.
The Glendale rail station was built in 1925 by Southern Pacific Railroad.
