The 1994 World Cup in Los Angeles (Pasadena)

In the world of professional soccer, 1994 was a big year for the USA as host of the World Cup. On July 3, the Pasadena Rose Bowl hosted one of the "Round of 16" matches between Romania and Argentina. Romania won 3-2. On July 13, the Rose Bowl hosted the World Cup semifinal match that pitted Brazil against Sweden (win for Brazil 1-0). On July 16, the Rose Bowl hosted the third place match between Sweden and Bulgaria (win for Sweden 4-0). Finally, on July 17, the Rose Bowl was honored to host the final game for the 1994 World Cup Championship between Brazil and Italy. Before a crowd of 94,194 fans, Brazil won the cup only after coming to a draw with Italy 0-0 and winning 3-2 after penalties.
