Unlike in the summer games, there typically are not many athletes in the winter games from Los Angeles County. Our athletes barely make up one percent of Team USA. Perhaps, this may be due to L.A.'s limited winter weather experience (although we do enjoy the wintery slopes in the mountains nearby). The two athletes here are among 29 from California and the 224 on Team USA in Beijing.

We wish to mention here figure skater and ice dancer Madison Chock. Although she has not apparently lived in California for quite some time, she is reported to have been born here in Redondo Beach. Besides now in Beijing, she also competed in the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics. She and her skating partner, Evan Bates, won the silver medal in Team Figure Skating in the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
