The Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department establishes and enforces support orders when a child receives public assistance or when a parent or legal caretaker requests services. The department acts in the “public interest” and does not represent individuals. Their services include opening cases, finding parents, establishing legal parent-child relationships, establishing child and medical support orders, and enforcing support orders. They provide these services at no or little cost.
