Although Chinese Americans have long continued to be the largest and one of the fastest growing Asian ethnic groups in Los Angeles County, two South Asian populations have also shown considerable growth since 2000. The Pakistani population in Los Angeles County grew more than 124 percent between 2000 and 2017 (from 4,981 persons in 2000 to an estimated 11,174 in 2017). The Asian Indian population grew 53 percent over the same period (from 60,268 persons in 2000 to an estimated 92,117 in 2017). On the other hand, although the Bangladeshi population in Los Angeles County grew 169 percent between 2000 and 2010 (from 1,689 persons in 2000 to 4,550 in 2010), its pace of growth slowed considerably since 2010 (about 3 percent through 2017). The same occurred with the Sri Lankan population, having grown 57 percent from 2000 to 2010 (from 2,979 persons to 4,680) but slowing to just under 7 percent through 2017.
