Although Chinese Americans have long continued to be the largest and one of the fastest growing Asian ethnic groups in Los Angeles County, South Asian populations have also added to the incredible diversity of the county and shown considerable growth since 2000. The Bangladeshi population in Los Angeles County grew 215 percent between 2000 and 2019 (from 1,689 persons in 2000 to an estimated 5,331 in 2019). The Pakistani population grew 166 percent over the same period (from 4,981 persons in 2000 to an estimated 13,262 in 2019). Both the Asian Indian and Sri Lankan populations in Los Angeles County each grew 94 percent from 2000 through 2019 (from 60,268 to 116,854 persons and 2,979 to 5,767 persons, respectively). Also of note, from Southeast Asia, are the Malaysian and Indonesian populations in Los Angeles County, which grew 146 and 114 percent, respectively, from 2000 through 2019.
