The Los Angeles Times has the third highest weekday circulation for a metropolitan newspaper in the nation, ranking behind USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. It boasts a weekday circulation of more than 550,000. The New York Times, although ranked number 6 in weekday circulation (more than 360,000), ranks ahead of the L.A. Times in Sunday circulation (860,000 versus 690,000 for the L.A. Times).


Rafu Shimpo is the largest Japanese American daily newspaper.


The Glendale News-Press, founded in 1905, was scheduled to publish its last edition in 2020 by its owner, the Los Angeles Times. The newspaper was purchased, however, by Outlook Newspapers of La Cañada Flintridge to continue publication.


In 1927, William Forbes, later publisher of the national business magazine Forbes, served as Editor-in-Chief of UCLA's Daily Bruin.
