It should be remembered that the Spanish language has been continuously spoken in the Los Angeles area since 1771. Consequently, many local place names (including Los Angeles itself) are in Spanish. For the fun of it, we offer this map to help English-only speakers navigate about town and yet, strangely, the map will probably seem quite foreign. Some of the translated place names are actually of Native American origin (such as Malibu, Topanga, Tujunga) and at least one is of French origin (La Verne). Click on the map image below.
