The official tree of Los Angeles is not a tropical palm, but the coral tree (erythrina). The stand of coral trees growing along the San Vicente Boulevard median strip in the Brentwood neighborhood (between 26th Street and Brigham Avenue) were designated a Los Angeles cultural-historical monument in 1976.
