Total electricity consumption in Los Angeles County measured in gigawatt-hours (GWh) by year and consumer sector. Also consumption percentages for each sector. A gigawatt-hour is a unit of energy equal to 1,000 Megawatt-hours (MWh) or 1,000,000 Kilowatt-hours (kWh) or 1 billion watt-hours. This unit is used to measure massive energy consumption at the regional level or output of large-scale power stations. A single GWh can power approximately 1,300 to 1,400 average homes in the U.S. for an entire year or the electricity needs of a large NFL stadium during a major event.

Total natural gas consumption in Los Angeles County measured in one million therms (MMTherms) by year and consumer sector. Also consumption percentages for each sector. One therm is the energy content of approximately 100 cubic feet of natural gas at standard temperature and pressure and equals 1,000 BTU. A single therm of natural gas can heat a mid-sized, moderately insulated home for roughly 1 to 2 hours during cold weather. One therm can also power a standard gas stovetop or oven for about 20 to 30 hours of continuous cooking.
