In 2010, the new Sheriff's South Los Angeles Station opened to replace the former Lennox Station (built in 1948). The new station serves the City of Lawndale and the unincorporated areas of Athens, El Camino Village, Del Aire, Wiseburn and Lennox. The new station also operates a sub-office in Lawndale at 15331 Prairie Avenue.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department provides full law enforcement services to all unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County. The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), Metrolink, and Los Angeles Community College District campuses also contract with the department for police services. In addition, the following municipalities in Los Angeles County contract with LASD for police services. For each of these cities, the LASD operates as their local police department.
