In 2021, 2.59 million visits were reported at Los Angeles County emergency rooms. This was down from a recent peak of 3.28 million visits in 2019.

Busiest Emergency Departments in Los Angeles County

Number of Reported Visits, 2021

Despite the surge of COVID-19 patients during the pandemic of 2020, Emergency Department (ED) visits in Los Angeles County fell off dramatically during that year. ED visits to LA County+USC Medical Center, for example, dropped from almost 135,000 in 2019 to less than 94,000 in 2020. In 2021, ED visits at hospitals in the county had not returned to pre-pandemic levels. Interestingly, however, for the first time in 2020, Antelope Valley Hospital's ED visits ranked it ahead of LA County+USC.

According to Becker's Hospital Review, a medical industry trade magazine, the emergency departments of Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center and Antelope Valley Hospital, in 2021, rank among the ten busiest ERs in the nation.
