HIGHEST & LOWEST TEMPERATURE RECORDS - LOS ANGELES COUNTY

The highest temperature historically recorded among the 20 Los Angeles County weather stations monitored by the Almanac (according to NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information) was 135oF, recorded in Beverly Hills on January 22, 2017. This followed 134oF, recorded just six months ealier, at the same location, on June 30, 2016. These very rare extreme temperatures are typically only reached in Death Valley in the California desert. The Almanac admits bewilderment at such a high temperatures recorded in the Los Angeles area (especially the one recorded during January) and that nearby UCLA weather station, less than three miles away, did not record temperatures anywhere near these extremes. Nevertheless, we offer no grounds for challenging these records.

The latest lowest temperature recorded in Los Angeles County was 0oF in Saugus in Santa Clarita on January 12, 1995. There were several zero temperature measurements in the last week of December 1994 and during January 1995. These were interspaced with daily low temperatures in the 40s and 50s. The Almanac questions whether these zero measurements reflected actual minimum temperatures at the time or simply "no data" recordings. The lowest non-zero temperature recorded was 2oF in Lancaster on December 24, 1984.

* See comment box above, "Highest & Lowest Temperature Records - Los Angeles County," preceeding the table above.
† There were several zero temperature measurements in the last week of December 1994 and the following January. These were interspaced with daily low temperatures in the 40s and 50s. The Almanac has some question about whether these zero measurements reflected actual minimum temperatures or simply "no data" entries.
