The first U.S. Little League team to win back-to-back World Series championships was from the Long Beach Little League. The Long Beach players, nicknamed the "Beach Boys," were initially defeated in the 1992 series, 6-0, by the opposing team from the Philippines. However, the Filipino players were later disqualified for fielding ineligible players (determined to be over-age and/or not from the little league district they were supposed to be from). As a result of the forfeit, the Long Beach team was awarded the 1992 Little League World Championship. The following year, in 1993, the "Beach Boys" again won the Little League World Championship by defeating Panama, 3-2. Pitcher Sean Burroughs went on to play professionally for San Diego, Tampa Bay, Arizona and Minnesota from 2002-2012.

The first American girl to play in the Little League World Series was pitcher-first baseman Victoria Brucker (now Ruelas). She both pitched and registered a hit during the 1989 series. She played with the Eastview Little League team from San Pedro. The team ultimately lost in the series semi-finals to the American team from Trumbull, Connecticut, 3-6, (which went on to win the championship against Taiwan, 5-2).
