In 2019, Los Angeles County paid $77.9 billion in federal and state personal income taxes. That was more revenue collected than by either of the governments of South Africa or New Zealand or the vast majority of other nations.

Los Angeles County taxpayers reported more than $7.1 billion in charitable contributions in 2019, more than in any other county in the United States. Los Angeles County also ranked first in reporting $10.7 billion in mortgage interest payments, more than double that of second-ranked Orange County, California.


In 2019, Los Angeles County's population accounted for 3 percent of the population of the United States. However, the county paid 3.7 percent of all federal personal income taxes.
