In the 2001 Season, the L.A. Galaxy was defeated by the San Jose
Earthquakes 2 to 1 for the
MLS Cup. In the 1996, the L.A. Galaxy was defeated by the DC United 3

Club Deportivo Chivas USA
A 2005 expansion club in U.S. Major League
Soccer, the new Los Angeles club is patterned on
the storied Mexican club based
in Guadalajara (10-time Mexican League champion). "Chivas" is
the nickname for
the Mexican club officially known as "Club Deportivo Guadalajara." The nickname
(meaning "goat" in Spanish) was originally meant by rival fans to insult the
team, but was adopted
as a nickname of affection by fans. The Los Angeles team
maintains a logo similar to that of the
Guadalajara club and plays in the same
red and white striped jerseys (which colors were, in turn,
copied from a Belgian
club for which the team founder once played).
