NHL Stanley Cup Championship Games Involving the Los Angeles Kings The Kings have made two appearances in the Stanley Cup Championship Series since their debut in 1967. In 2012, Los Angeles, coached by Darryl Sutter and led by player Dustin Brown, entered the final quest for the Cup against the New Jersey Devils. The Kings won the first three games in the series, lost the following two and, in the sixth game, went on to win the Cup for the first time for the franchise.
In 1993, Los Angeles, coached by Barry Melrose and led by legendary player Wayne Gretzky, entered the finals for the Cup against the Montreal Canadiens. The Kings won the first of five games but went on to lose the next four, conceding the Cup to Montreal.
