Prior to being elected to the Assembly, Tony Mendoza was a fourth grade teacher at Brooklyn Avenue Elementary School in East Los Angeles. He was the first in his family of nine children to graduate from college. He also served on the Board of Directors of United Teachers Los Angeles.
