Sharon Runner succeeded her husband, George Runner, in the state Senate. He was elected to the California Board of Equalization. When he did serve in the state Senate, she served in the State Assembly in a seat he had previously filled. The Runners were the first married couple in California history to serve concurrently in the state legislature.
