The Los Angeles County Assessor oversees the largest assessment jurisdiction in the United States with 2.3 million parcels and a staff of more than 1,500 employees. What Does the County Assessor Do? The Assessor is responsible for 1) locating all taxable property in the County and identifying ownership; 2) establishing a taxable value for all property subject to property taxation; 3) completing an assessment roll showing the assessed values of all property; and 4) applying all legal exemptions.
The Assessor earns $180,134 annually. Prior to his November 2000 election as Los Angeles County Assessor, Rick Auerbach was appointed Assessor by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on February 29, 2000.
