Sumner Redstone's personal wealth at $8.1
billion made him the wealthiest resident in 2004 in Los Angeles County and the second
wealthiest resident in California (behind Lawrence Ellison of Oracle Corp.,
whose wealth stood at $13.7 billion). Redstone ranked only 20th
among the wealthiest persons in the nation (Ellison ranked 10th).
Eli Broad, who had long been Los Angeles County's wealthiest
resident, ranked just behind Redstone in both the county and state and
28th in the nation.
According to Forbes Magazine, California was home
to 98 people who in 2004 had a personal net worth of $550 million or more.
Of these, 35 resided in Los Angeles County, the highest
concentration of any of the state's counties. As for individual cities, Los Angeles
tied with San Francisco with 22 residents each worth $550 million or
more. Beverly Hills was
home to 11.
