In 1998, the Los Angeles County Park Police (Departments of Parks and
Recreation) and the Safety Police (Departments of Health Services and Internal
Services) merged to begin operating as the Los Angeles County Office of Public
Safety or Los Angeles County Police.
The Los Angeles County Office of Public Safety provides law enforcement
protective services to patrons and employees at Los Angeles County government
properties and recreational venues. This includes all county hospitals and
clinics. The agency employs 580 sworn and 144
civilian personnel, making it one of the largest law enforcement agencies
in the county and in California.
