Los Angeles County Superior Courts

In 1998, Proposition 220 was passed by voters to amend the state constitution to permit county judges to merge the superior and municipal courts into a "unified" superior court. A majority of superior and municipal court judges within the county had to approve. Los Angeles County merged its courts in January 2000. Under the new unified, single tier court system, the Superior Court hears all types of cases.
