In 2003, Santa Clarita continued to rank as one of the safest cities in Los Angeles County in which to live and the 10th safest in the nation among cities with a population of 100,000 to 499,999. Unfortunately, one local city, Compton, continued to rank as among the nation's most dangerous cities.  For 2003, it ranked as the seventh most dangerous city in the nation . – Morgan Quitno Safest City Awards
