In City Crime Rankings 2013 by CQ Press, among the 33 U.S. cities with a population of more than 500,000, the city
of Los Angeles
ranked sixth (6th) for lowest crime rates.  For U.S. cities in the 100,000 to 499,000 population class
(244 cities), the city of Glendale ranked tenth (10th) for lowest crime rates.  Glendale was ranked among the top 10
cities in this class along with its Southern California sister cities of Irvine, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.

Unfortunately, one local city, Compton, continued as it has for many years to rank among the nation's most dangerous cities.
The City Crime Rankings 2013, ranked Compton, among 155 U.S. cities with populations of 75,000 to 99,999, as the
fourth (4th) most crime-ridden city for its size.
