Chamber of Commerce: 6055 E. Washington Blvd, Ste 110, Commerce, CA 90040; (323) 728-7222; Fax (323) 728-7565

The location first served as a main stopover along the El Camino Real (Spanish for Royal Highway) then, later, as a railroad center. Business leaders and residents later agreed to focus the city on the development of commerce and so named the city. The city was also among those central Los Angeles County communities derisive nicknamed Billy Goat Acres due to an influx of down-and-out Depression era Midwest farmers.
