Museums of Los Angeles County SCIENCE
The Griffith Observatory closed on January 6, 2002 to clear out the building for a thorough renovation beginning in October 2002. Plans are to re-open the Observatory in late 2005, in its 70th anniversary year. While the Observatory is closed, the Griffith Observatory Satellite facility will be open in the north-eastern portion of Griffith Park, south of the Los Angeles Zoo and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. The Satellite facility offers planetarium shows and an exhibit program, evening telescope viewing, and the latest astronomical news. The Griffith Observatory Satellite is open every day except Mondays. Located on the campus of the private secondary Webb Schools in Claremont, the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology is the only paleontology museum in the world located on a high school campus.
