WHERE DO OUR NUMBERS FOR EACH COMMUNITY COME FROM? Because the U.S. Census does not
calculate statistics for individual
communities within
incorporated cities (the Census hierarchy descending from nation, states, counties,
cities/places, and census tracts), statistics
above for each listed community
within
the City of Los Angeles are derived from accumulated data and calculated
averages for all census tracts
determined by the Los Angeles Almanac to lie within each geographic community.
We made use of zip code, city planning and neighbor council
maps to make these
determinations. These are not official numbers offered by the City of Los
Angeles
nor by the U.S. Census Bureau for
communities listed above. A number of census
tracts straddle more than one community or zip code and some even straddle city
boundaries.
Because a few census tracts within the City of Los Angeles do straddle
city boundaries and include numbers from outside the city, the accumulated
total
for all communities will be slightly different than official U.S. Census totals for the
City of Los Angeles.
